"Uzumasa" used to mean Koryuji
Temple, but now it becomes like a pronaun
of "Uzumasa Movie Village". It
takes just 10 mins. by Keifuku Railway from
Saiin where Rhino Hotel Kyoto is located,
which you can go also by bus.
Uzumasa has truly become a Movie Town. There
are not only Toei Movie Studio but also Shochiku
Movie Studio and a cable TV studio that often
comes to a topic in Kyoto in these days.
It can be said that the entire town is full
of shooting spots. You may be excited seeing
actors and actresses in Kimono style shopping,
eating, having a rest at a coffee shop, etc.
on Daiei St. which goes between Koryuji Temple
and Katabira-no-Tsuji, as a remaining of
Daiei movie studio that used to be there. |

Care for Japanese Confectionery?
"Uzumasa An"
is in front of Toei movie studio. When I
was a Jr. high school student, I used to
buy "San shoku Dango" (3 balls
of round flour dumplings skewered on a bamboo
stick) for about JPY60 on my way home from
school being scared by a wry face of a storekeeper.
Generation has changed, and now my son is
a big fan of "Warabi mochi" (bracken
cake) of the store. He says "Nothing
more tasty than this!!". There are indeed
some people waiting in a line to have Warabi
mochi made. I myself is still a big fan of
"Mame Daifuku" (rice cake stuffed
with bean jam), and believe it is one of
the most smashing confectioneries I've ever
had. Please try some. |

Care for Japanese Pickles?
"Kyoto Pickles, Mori"
|
|
|
 |
located in east of Daiei shopping st. "Kyoto
Pickles, Mori" is always lively with
shipments. You can meet the manager working
busily inside the store when visiting in
the morning, who is a typical Kyoto gentleman
with gentle smile and has great confidence
in his business.
- Feel refreshed by the taste - is their
theme. Their attitude of searching plain
taste of fine vegetables produced in their
own farm receives good reputation among Kyoto
people whose tradition loving spirits also
ask for something new.
